IPHH has put into operation a new automatic fire extinguishing system in Data Center Hamburg 2 (Wendenstrasse 408). The nitrogen gas extinguishing system is combined with the fire alarm system and can be triggered by it automatically. Our choice for the extinguishing gas fell on nitrogen, among other things due to the outstanding environmental performance and the very low Personal danger to technicians working at the data center.

A special feature of the extinguishing system are the silencer nozzles which ensure minimizing the sound pressure at the discharge of the extinguishing gas. These nozzles have just recently been approved by the "Verband der Schadenversicherer". In the past, there were several cases of server disks failing at different data centers because of the high sound pressure caused upon the release of the extinguishing gas. Data loss affecting clients occured. Taking that risk for us was not an option, of course!

Even if occurance of a fire in the data center is very unlikely due to the materials used and approval of a fire prevention assessor, we decided to crown our first class data center with this fire extinguishing system.
