Data centre with extremely good energy efficiency

According to a Bitkom study on data centres ("Data centres in Germany, current market developments, status 2023, https://www.bitkom.org/Bitkom/Publikationen/Studie-Rechenzentren-in-Deutschland), an average PUE of 1.55 was calculated for Germany in 2022.

Quote: "While the energy demand of IT components in data centres more than doubled between 2010 and 2022, the energy demand of infrastructures only increased by around 30 %. As a result, the power usage effectiveness (PUE) of data centres with more than 40 KW of IT connected load improved from 1.98 to 1.55 between 2010 and 2022."

With an average PUE value of 1.37, IPHH's data centres are significantly lower and can therefore already be described as very efficient.

"We are proud that our data centres are obviously among the most efficient in Germany," says Sascha Pollok, Managing Director of IPHH Internet Port Hamburg GmbH. "We have been committed to the sustainability of our data centres for many years and are continuously investing in new technologies and measures to increase energy efficiency. Our goal is to achieve an annual average PUE of less than 1.30 by the end of 2030. We believe that we can achieve these values in cooperation with our customers."

To increase energy efficiency, we are focusing on the following activities, among others:

Optimising cooling: Cooling is the biggest energy consumer in our data centres. We rely on innovative and energy-efficient cooling systems that keep the temperature of the IT components at a constant level. Our air conditioning concept, the cold aisle containment, is particularly noteworthy.

Use of renewable energies: IPHH has been relying on renewable energies to power its own data centres for many years. The latest diesel generators ensure that greenhouse gas emissions are reduced to a minimum.

Customers are involved: Every customer is obliged to make sure that the rented racks are properly sealed to the cold aisle. This is ensured by regular checks.

The measures to increase energy efficiency help to reduce electricity consumption. This is an important contribution to climate protection.
